In the Middle Ages, the leaves were included in charms to ward off all kinds of nuisances, from insects to pestilence to witchcraft. The magical associations of Bay leaf include victory, strength, protection, and prophecy. Writing one's wishes on Bay leaves and them burning them at the Full Moon is said to bring quick success.
